Watch F1 online for free, no toolbar or whatever bs software the spammers tell you to dl

Do a search on how to watch F1 online and you get all sorts of of BS telling you to pay for some BS service or download some BS toolbar, this guide shows you how to do it for free using open sourced software.

We all know BBC (UK) has the best F1 coverage. BBC put their shows online 15-20 mins after it finished airing on its iPlayer site at http://bbc.co.uk/iPlayer/. but because the site is UK restricted, many people cannot view its content. This is a step by step guide on how to bypass the restriction.

Step by step guide on how to watch F1 online on BBC iPlayer

1. Download and install the latest version of FireFox from http://www.firefox.com/

2. Open Firefox, use FireFox to visit http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and install the Flash plugin for FireFox.

3. Visit Tor Project at http://www.torproject.org/index.html.en

4. Download and install the "Installation Bundle", which includes Tor,Privoxy,Vidalia and FireFox Plugin. (Download link:http://www.torproject.org/dist/vidalia-bundles/vidalia-bundle-0.2.1.19-0.1.15.exe)

5. Restart FireFox, you should now see a Tor Disabled in red at the bottom right corner of FireFox.

6. Open the Tor config file by clicking: Start Button -> Programs -> Vidalia Bundle -> Tor -> Torrc

7. Once the Torrc text file is opened, add the following at the end of the file:

StrictExitNodes 1
ExitNodes {gb}

8. Save the file then close it.

9. Start (or close it and restart if it's already running) the Vidalia program at Start Button -> Programs -> Vidalia Bundle -> Vidalia , look at the onion icon near your clock, wait for the icon to switch from yellow to green.

10. Go back to FireFox, right click on the Tor Disabled text located at the bottom right corner of FireFox, then click preferences.

11. A window name Torbutton Preferences will pop up, click on the Security Settings tab

12. Untick the Disable plugins during Tor usage box (You need this unticked to use Flash under Tor).

13. Click OK to close the Torbutton Preferences window.

14. Click once on the Tor Disabled text at the bottom right corner of FireFox, it will turn green and become Tor Enabled.

15. At this point, all the connections you make in FireFox will go through the tor network. (and automatically uses an UK IP as the last exit point because that's what you put in the config earlier)

16. Visit BBC's iPlayer site http://www.bbc.co.uk/iPlayer/ and enjoy the show.

Notes:
Since your connection will bounce around the world, web browsing will be much slower than usual, but, if it lags way too much (over 20 seconds) or it show errors when browsing through Tor, that means you're on a slow or broken circuit, you can switch to another circuit by:

1. Double click on the onion icon near your clock.

2. The "Vidalia Control Panel" pops up, click the Use a New Identity button.

3. Visit the BBC iPlayer site again.

4. Repeat the above if necessary.

While you're at it, you can also click View the Network and see what it's actually doing, you can see your connection bouncing around the world and exit through an UK IP. You can also manually close a slow circuit by right clicking on a circuit and choose "Close circuit"

I am using a Mac OS10. Please help me to access the BBC iplayer.

I followed your steps nicely, installed Firefox, Java, Tor, Vidalia, all well. I got a green onion Vidalia logo, and a blue world logo for Firefox. But I cannot find a place to go to edit torrc. torrc does not appear when I search library for files, although I can go to Advanced setup in Vidalia, and I see a current adress for torrc separated by slash lines. Maybe I add it on to the end of this? Also my computer does not have the curly brackets to put after exitnodes (gb) - only regular brackets. Will they work?

Absolutely brilliant. Of all the other complicated and non-working solutions your simple solution works perfectly. I am now considering whether to buy “Boxee” and see if I am able to transfer the BBC stream to the TV. What do you think?

I did all the above but I keep getting "You need to install Flash to play..."

I have unchecked the disabled plugins but for some reason Flash is still being stopped, any ideas?

Txs in advance!

I must have gotten a newer version because it is a little different. I got it to work anyway, but when I get there I get a message that I need to install flash player. It was installed already I reinstalled the version that they directed me but still same message...any clues?
